First Cyclocross Race of 2009
Central Coast Cyclocross race #1, happened on Sunday. It was rumored to be in the 90's, thankfully the whole day was ideal, cool breeze and sunshine! The first race of the cyclocross season usually holds many strange familiar feelings. Its a lot like forgetting what it felt like to close your finger in your car door. Every one knows it hurt, but unless you do it again you can't quite place the sensations. Pain is hard to forget, but easy to romanticize. I guess if bike racing always hurt so much I wouldn't do it anymore, but the truth is the pain changes. Pain changes as your body changes. There is something immensely satisfying about overcoming pain to the point when it doesn't effect you so much, and your left with a buffet of endorphins and a general feeling satisfaction. And..........I'm not quite there yet. First race is usually not so glorious. Maybe if I'd done more speed work, more interval training, I could gloat over my result. But no, 14th place will leave me hungry. I'm looking forward to going faster.
